Music






Intent

  • Music is an entitlement for all children and it is education is for life.
  • Music enhances children’s learning and their whole experience at school.
  • To give all pupils a wide range of musical experiences to develop as a confident, resilient and motivated individuals; inspired to achieve and inspired to believe.
  • Promote music within the school and integrate it within the curriculum.
  • Raising the profile of music in school that contributes to raising the profile of the school in the local area. It is important that children see what their peers are doing through performance opportunities. It is also essential that the right people see all of the work we do; parents, teachers or governors as well as the wider community.

Implementation

  • A programme of lessons taught for progression and depth and appropriate challenge opportunities within these lessons. Music is taught by a specialist teacher. Lessons are designed using the Model Music Curriculum and the Sing Up curriculum. This enables children to develop an understanding of musical concepts through a repetition-based approach to learning which enables a more secure, deeper learning and mastery of musical skills.
  • Differentiated and deeper learning for each child that constantly builds through each step/lesson, unit and year.
  • Weekly singing assemblies.
  • Extra-curricular activities and clubs, including choir.
  • Children to have access to well organised and well-resourced instruments.
  • Groups to perform at a local events and other performance opportunities
  • Watching and taking part in concerts.
  • Assemblies and productions.
  • Specialist teaching for particular year groups.
  • Productions for EYFS and years 2, 4 and 6.
  • Musicians invited into school for demo concerts and workshops.
  • Organise participation in performance opportunities outside school. For example, in year 3, children visit the 02 to take part in Young Voices.

Impact

  • Children to have an embedded understanding of musical skills and concepts.
  • Children enthused about music and everything will grow from there.
  • Children to develop new musical skills and concepts, and re-visit established musical skills and concepts.
  • Speaking and performing with confidence.
  • Confidence to perform and evaluate performances.
