Creative Arts

Our school curriculum is enhanced by giving children the opportunities to develop their confidence, self esteem and talents through a range of creative arts.

School Productions

All children have the opportunity to be part of a full scale musical production in Reception, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6. The productions develop speaking and listening skills, enable the children to sing as part of a group or in solo parts, take part in group dances or develop technical skills by working on sound and lighting. Recent productions include 'Joseph, 'Bugsy Malone' and 'We Will Rock You'.

Learning a Musical Instrument

All children will learn the recorder as part of our Year 3 curriculum and the Ukulele in our Year 4 curriculum. The children have the opportunity to perform their skills through whole school assemblies and performances to parents. There are opportunities to learn a range of other musical instruments including the piano, drums, trumpet and guitar through our 'Make time for Music' provider.

School Choir

Our school choir is open to all children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. We use the company 'Music Station' to develop our choir's skills and they have the opportunity to perform at whole school events and we encourage performances within the local area. We also have an internal school choir in Key Stage Two organised by Miss Tustin and Mr Williams Jones.

Music Technology

All children will have time working in our new music technology studio. The children use the latest iPad technology to learn how to perform, record and edit music resulting in their own class song.

In addition to this, children will have the opportunity to visit museums, galleries and the local theatre as part of their curriculum as well as learning to speak French and link with children in different countries. We have an extensive range of extra-curricular clubs including music, dance, drama, language and art clubs and Creative Arts features highly in our curriculum, for example making Mayan headdresses in Year 6 and Vincent Van Gogh canvases in Year 4.

Performing Arts Organisations

At Kings Hill we also use Performing Arts as an engaging way to explore curriculum topics such as Ancient Greece in Year 5. The nature of the work leads to many added benefits including leadership skills, team work, social understanding and confidence building.

In 2017 Year 5 spent eight weeks working with Frankie Fitzgerald from Centre Stage Theatre Academy on an Ancient Greek project called “The Golden touch and Other Tales”. The children used their knowledge from learning about Ancient Greek Myths in class and worked in groups directing and producing their own tales to tell.

The children learnt to take responsibility for their own performances and took guidance and direction from Frankie to make improvements.

It was clear how much the children gained from this experience and the great depth of knowledge they demonstrated on Ancient Greece and the Art of performance.
